My name is Steven Clapp. Having left a 10 year career in the lawn and landscape industry; I entered the field of audio video (A/V) installation with little to no experience. I started in December of the year 2000 at Audio Video Alternatives in Royal Oak, MI on Woodward Ave. In just 5 years, I worked my way to crew supervisor and was later one of two men chosen to be project manager. In that time, I received a Cedia Level 1 certification, Professional Level and Master Level certifications in Elan Home Systems and also received Control4 Tech I and Tech II certifications. I have also been a Control4 beta tester since 2012.
15 years later, after working for a few of the major audio video companies in South-Eastern Michigan, serving as service manager and also installation manager; I finally decided to go out on my own in the spring of 2016. In May of the same year, was offered a chance to work on a part-time basis in another company and do my own jobs whenever they came up (as long as ample notice was given). After 4 months of transitioning from employment to self-employment; a job came up that was big enough to put me out on my own 100%. At that time, I received a Control4 dealer license which the Control4 rep had said, that it was the shortest amount of time in the region's history for any company to receive a license.
In personal life, my beautiful wife Liz and I celebrated 25 years of wedded bliss on April 12, 2022 and we have 3 wonderful children. Liz has been home-schooling our kids since 2010 and as I like to say, home schooling is “custom schooling” which can be made to fit your child’s specific needs. We live in the hometown of Milford with a fabulous community and downtown and we attend church at Heritage Baptist Church in Fenton, MI.
As anyone knows; the technology industry (and specifically home automation) has grown exponentially over the past decade. While even 20 years ago, you could relocate and control A/V equipment from another room using a basic infrared repeater system; today the possibilities are virtually endless. Technology now, is generally limited only by your imagination and budget constraints.
